Over the past couple of years I’ve watched a number of blogs and other media from churches in the area that mention “authentic church”, “real church”, “unchurch”, “progressive church”, “simple church”, “comeback church”, etc. I’d like to add a new term to the lexicon, “regrow a church”.
DRBC has been here a long time but in the cycle of church life we’re essentially starting over from the ground up (after a gradual period of decline). We don’t have large crowds, a hip praise band, coffee shop, or multi-deck parking (maybe in the future). We do have an awareness of the need for an evangelistic Bible-based outreach here in our corner of Alexandria. Similarly, when people earnestly study and work together to make Christ known there’s a beautiful by-product that results called spiritual maturity (I know this will scare a lot of folks away and that's O.K.).
I can promise you that you won’t get lost in the crowd here. You can actually see a real human in the pulpit (I don’t wear shorts or polos, though) and if the program you’re looking for isn’t up and running it might be because we need you to start it. I still believe that there are people out there who are not so into themselves and consumer Christianity that they've forgotten the simplicity of worship and the greater need of reaching the lost. Come and join us and be a pasrt of a new Kingdom work in Alexandria.
